පළමු වරට: ලිංගික ශ්‍රමිකයින් CEDAW හිදී ශ්‍රී ලංකාව නියෝජනය කරයි

ශ්‍රී ලංකා සිවිල් සමාජයට වැදගත් මොහොතක, ස්ටෑන්ඩ්අප් මූව්මන්ට් ලංකා හි විධායක අධ්‍යක්ෂිකා අශිලා දන්දෙණිය, ජිනීවාහි පැවති කාන්තාවන්ට එරෙහි වෙනස්කම් කිරීම් තුරන් කිරීමේ කමිටුවේ (CEDAW) 90 වන සැසිවාරයේදී SWASA - ශ්‍රී ලංකාව සහ ශ්‍රී ලංකා සිවිල් සමාජ සංවිධාන 25 වෙනුවෙන් ප්‍රබල ප්‍රකාශයක් ඉදිරිපත් කළාය.

අභිමානි කාන්තා සංවිධානය නියෝජනය කරමින් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ලිංගික සේවිකාවක් ප්‍රථම වරට SWASA ජාලයේ කොටසක් ලෙස සමුළුවට සහභාගී වීමත් සමඟ නියෝජිත පිරිස ඓතිහාසික සන්ධිස්ථානයක් සනිටුහන් කළාය. මෙම පෙරළිකාර නියෝජනය ජාත්‍යන්තර සංසදයට තීරණාත්මක සෘජු දෘෂ්ටිකෝණ ගෙන ආවේය.

SWASA ජාල ශ්‍රී ලංකා සම්බන්ධීකාරක, පුජානි ගලප්පත්ති ද සැසියට සහභාගී වූ අතර, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ලිංගික ශ්‍රමිකයන් මුහුණ දෙන වත්මන් අභියෝග පිළිබඳව වටිනා අවබෝධයක් ලබා දුන්නාය. ප්‍රතිපත්ති සාකච්ඡාවලින් බොහෝ විට හඬ බැහැර කරනු ලබන ආන්තික කාන්තාවන්ගේ ජීවමාන යථාර්ථයන් ආලෝකමත් කිරීමට ඇයගේ දායකත්වය උපකාරී විය.

මෙම විවිධාකාර නියෝජිත කණ්ඩායම, ජාත්‍යන්තර මානව හිමිකම් යාන්ත්‍රණයන් සමඟ ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ වර්ධනය වන සිවිල් සමාජය සම්බන්ධ වීම පෙන්නුම් කරන අතර, රටේ කාන්තා අයිතිවාසිකම් සහ ස්ත්‍රී පුරුෂ සමානාත්මතාවය පිළිබඳ සාකච්ඡාවලදී බහු දෘෂ්ටිකෝණ - විශේෂයෙන් සාම්ප්‍රදායිකව බැහැර කරන ලද ප්‍රජාවන්ගෙන් - නියෝජනය වන බව සහතික කරයි.
කාන්තාවන්ට එරෙහි සියලු ආකාරයේ වෙනස්කම් කිරීම් තුරන් කිරීමේ සම්මුතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීම අධීක්ෂණය කරන CEDAW කමිටුව, රජයේ අනුකූලතාවයේ හිඩැස් ඉස්මතු කිරීමට සහ කාන්තා අයිතිවාසිකම් ආරක්ෂා කිරීමට සහ ප්‍රවර්ධනය කිරීමට ප්‍රතිපත්ති වෙනස්කම් සඳහා පෙනී සිටීමට සිවිල් සමාජයට වැදගත් වේදිකාවක් සපයයි.

Sri Lankan Activists Make Historic Representation at CEDAW Session in Geneva

In a significant moment for Sri Lankan civil society, Ashila Dandeniya, Executive Director of Standup Movement Lanka, presented a powerful statement on behalf of SWASA – Sri Lanka and 25 Sri Lankan civil society organizations at the 90th session of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) in Geneva.

The delegation marked a historic milestone as, for the first time, a sex worker from Sri Lanka representing Abhimani Women’s Organization attended the conference as part of the SWASA Network. This groundbreaking representation brought critical firsthand perspectives to the international forum.

SWASA Network Sri Lanka Coordinator, Pujani Galappatti, also participated in the session, providing valuable insights about the current challenges facing sex workers in Sri Lanka. Her contribution helped illuminate the lived realities of marginalized women whose voices are often excluded from policy discussions.

This diverse delegation demonstrates Sri Lanka’s growing civil society engagement with international human rights mechanisms, ensuring that multiple perspectives—particularly from traditionally excluded communities—are represented in discussions about women’s rights and gender equality in the country.

The CEDAW Committee, which monitors implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, provides an important platform for civil society to highlight gaps in government compliance and advocate for policy changes to protect and promote women’s rights.
