Regional Workshop Addresses Sri Lanka’s Mounting Debt Crisis

Civil society organizations from across Asia recently joined forces to tackle Sri Lanka’s escalating public debt problems in a strategic workshop hosted by the Asian Peoples’ Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD) and the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APFWLD).

The collaborative session brought together key stakeholders to develop actionable solutions to the debt crisis that has severely impacted Sri Lanka’s economy and its citizens’ livelihoods. Standup Movement Lanka, which advocates for workers and women’s rights in Sri Lanka, played an active role in the discussions.

Participants explored sustainable debt restructuring options, equitable economic policies, and the disproportionate impact of austerity measures on women and vulnerable communities. The workshop emphasized the importance of regional solidarity and civil society participation in creating just financial systems.

This initiative represents a significant step toward community-driven approaches to economic recovery in Sri Lanka and potentially serves as a model for other nations facing similar challenges.

How do we tackle the water crisis?

We work with local experts and community members to find the best sustainable solution in each place where we work, whether it’s a well, a piped system, a BioSand Filter, or a system for harvesting rainwater. And with every water point we fund, our partners coordinate sanitation and hygiene training, and establish a local Water Committee to help keep water flowing for years to come.

ආසියානු ජනතා ණය සහ සංවර්ධනය පිළිබඳ ව්‍යාපාරය (APMDD) සහ කාන්තාවන්, නීතිය සහ සංවර්ධනය පිළිබඳ ආසියා පැසිෆික් සංසදය (APFWLD) විසින් පවත්වන ලද උපායමාර්ගික වැඩමුළුවකදී, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ උග්‍රවන රාජ්‍ය ණය ගැටළු විසඳීම සඳහා ආසියාව පුරා සිවිල් සමාජ සංවිධාන මෑතකදී එක්විය.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ආර්ථිකයට සහ එහි පුරවැසියන්ගේ ජීවනෝපායන්ට දැඩි ලෙස බලපා ඇති ණය අර්බුදයට ක්‍රියාකාරී විසඳුම් සංවර්ධනය කිරීම සඳහා සහයෝගී සැසිය ප්‍රධාන කොටස්කරුවන් එක් කළේය. ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ කම්කරු සහ කාන්තා අයිතිවාසිකම් වෙනුවෙන් පෙනී සිටින Standup Movement Lanka, සාකච්ඡාවල ක්‍රියාකාරී භූමිකාවක් ඉටු කළේය.

සහභාගිවන්නන් තිරසාර ණය ප්‍රතිව්‍යුහගත කිරීමේ විකල්ප, සාධාරණ ආර්ථික ප්‍රතිපත්ති සහ කාන්තාවන්ට සහ අවදානමට ලක්විය හැකි ප්‍රජාවන්ට කප්පාදු පියවරවල අසමානුපාතික බලපෑම ගවේෂණය කළහ. සාධාරණ මූල්‍ය පද්ධති නිර්මාණය කිරීමේදී කලාපීය සහයෝගීතාවයේ සහ සිවිල් සමාජ සහභාගීත්වයේ වැදගත්කම වැඩමුළුව මගින් අවධාරණය කරන ලදී.
මෙම මුලපිරීම ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ආර්ථික ප්‍රකෘතිය සඳහා ප්‍රජාව විසින් මෙහෙයවනු ලබන ප්‍රවේශයන් සඳහා සැලකිය යුතු පියවරක් නියෝජනය කරන අතර සමාන අභියෝගවලට මුහුණ දෙන අනෙකුත් ජාතීන් සඳහා ආදර්ශයක් ලෙස ක්‍රියා කළ හැකිය.
